GUITARS
ALIVE VIII A HUGE SUCCESS
This years Guitars Alive Main Event was another huge success.
Guitars Alive VIII took place on Saturday, April 10th, 2010 at Sudbury
Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium. A packed house enjoyed the
best local guitar ensembles in the first half, including: Larchwood,
Chelmsford and Levack Public Schools; Lively and Lasalle Secondary
Schools, the Lasalle Bluegrass Duo, and the Cambrian College Junior
and Senior Guitar Ensembles.
The first half concluded with Jamie Dupuis, a talented young soloist
currently studying at Cambrian College. After the intermission,
there was a “Guitar Party!” – this year’s special line up of top
local professionals presented the guitar in a variety of settings
from classical to country blues, electric Chicago blues, Parisien
gypsy jazz, cool jazz, rock and blues and funk. Local professionals
included: guitarists Philip Candelaria, Gary DiSalle, Paul DiSalle,
Paul Dunn, Don Leuschen, Marc Savard, Dan Vaillancourt; stand up
bass Tom Linklater; vocalists Sarah Craig and Hilary Welch; and
the house band: Jean-Yves Begin - saxophone, Peter Scherzinger –
trumpet, Brian Quebec – bass, and Sean Perras – drums.
More than $2000 was raised for local guitar programs, student scholarships
and the Sudbury guitar community. |
